skin peels

Over the years, your skin can gradually appear dull and lifeless. This can be caused by dead skin cells that accumulate and clog up your skin.

Chemical facial peels aim to remove the dead skin cells from the skins surface to allow new healthy skin cells to grow back creating smoother looking skin. They can also be used to treat blemishes, scars and help reduce the signs of ageing.

Skin peels have been used since ancient Egyptian times where fruit juice acids were used to rejuvenate the skin. Modern skin peels have been in use since the 1960s and now very specific AHA (Glycolic) peels are used to give very controlled and precise peels of the skin. Peels help to make our skin look smooth, more refined and ‘fresh looking’. A rejuvenated skin has more colour and reflects more light.

the treatment

During a chemical skin peel a solution is applied to the face causing a controlled and rapid exfoliation of the superficial skin layers. This brings on a warm and tingling sensation which could last between 5 – 10 minutes.

This procedure stimulates subsequent production of new cells, collagen and elastin and in this way we can help to treat the following:

  • Superficial lesions e.g. sun damage/ sun spots
  • The texture and quality of the skin and skin regeneration
  • Acne
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma and keratoses
  • Fine lines
  • Décolleté, hands, forearms and stretch marks (special protocols exist for these)
  • Smokers’ skin

We offer Glycolic Peels at Malmin Skin Clinic.

This type of skin peel penetrates deep beneath the surface of the skin, exfoliating dead skin cells while stimulating cell regeneration and collagen production. A glycolic skin peel is effective for treating sun spots, acne scars, blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles. Part of the alpha hydroxyl family of natural ingredients, glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is a fruit acid.

When applied to the skin, it helps to remove the “glue” that holds the older, rougher and dryer skin on the surface. When it removes that top layer of skin, the fresh, new layer is visible. It’s this layer that’s without damage and which looks fresher. This type of peel offers effective exfoliation requiring no down time.

The acids within the peel used work by bringing the pH of the skin to an optimum acidity level. This action chemically loosens the “glue” that binds the dead and damaged cells causing exfoliation and allow the promotion of new cell growth.

Can help to reduce acne scarring, reverse skin damage, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, remove hyper-pigmentation, liver pots and other signs of ageing.

Each chemical peel has a different strength of active ingredients and therefore the treatment itself varies. Generally though, a chemical peel involves the preparation of the area to be treated and the careful application of the chemical peel. It will be removed after a specific time and depending on the type of peel, a cream may then be applied.
Chemical peel treatment removes the layers of dead skin to reveal fresher looking, brighter and rejuvenated skin. Milder ‘superficial’ skin peels, such as the glycolic peel, can be used as an extension of your beauty regime and repeated at certain intervals.
The whole process usually takes around 30 minutes. Some chemical peels are single skin peel treatments and involve no downtime. Others require a course of treatments, some of which have little or no down time. You should always use sunblock post treatment as your skin can be quite sensitive. After any chemical peel you are free to leave the clinic as soon as you feel comfortable to do so.
The cost of a skin peel starts at £100 per session and we offer also offer package discounts which can be presented to you upon your skin appointment.
